Do you want to gain weight?

Gain Muscle and Fat

If you want to gain weight you will need to up your calories beyond what you are burning in a day.  Due to the large amounts of food needed, meals should be divided into 5 or 6 per day.  Tryto keep all exercise to a minimum (perhaps 2 workouts per week).  Drink plenty of water and add salty items to retain it for maximum short term gain.

Gaining Muscle

Weight gain comes from three sources:fat, muscle water.  What type of weight gained depends on several factors:

  • kind of exercises you do
  • nutrient levels
  • your genetics.

Only the lucky few will gain pure muscle without any fat.  If you've never weight trained before, most of the time, you will gain all muscle at the start of your efforts, but after a few months the % will decrease.

How Much Should I Eat?

With gaining weight, a calorie excess is required.  Depending on your activity level, hormones, and other factors, this amount can vary from each person..

3500 calories = 1 pound

500 extra calories a day = 1 lb/week gain

Calories needed to maintain =13 x (your weight)

Begin slow and monitor your weight week by week.  If you stop gaining, then you will need to increase your food quantity until you see gains again.  Once you gain pounds, you will need to adjust your calorie needs, because greater weight typically means more calories are needed just to maintain it every day.
